Writers Group Celebrates Autumn With Haiku

Posted by on Nov 16, 2015 in Happenings, Inspiration, MeetUp, Studios630, Writers Group | 0 comments

The Studios630 Writers Group took a leaf-raking break to capture the beauty of the natural world in fall haiku. Each month, in addition to reading and critiquing each others’ work, our writers have an optional “homework” assignment. In October/November, the homework was a haiku challenge. Writing haiku gave us an opportunity to focus on the present moment, play with words, and unleash our creativity within a set structure. (Traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line, and 5 in the third line. Contemporary haiku does not necessarily adhere to these guidelines.) Here are a few sample haiku from our session. Our next meeting will be January 10; we are focusing on personal essay. If you’re a wordsmith, please join us. Stay abreast of our events on the Studios630 Facebook page. Thanks to ArtLife Gallery and Studio for hosting us! Late fall zinnias Colorfully riotous In dark morning gloom -Dawn Bertuca Bright red Maple leaf Caught dancing on the breezes Pirouette landing -Deb Dynako Fall color stains me The hue of God’s living room The place he abides -Bruce Schuurmann Leaves that linger low Soon to fall below, and next Fertile ground, awash -Kristin Aasmundstad Walsh We would love to hear from you. Add your own haiku in the comments! Photos by Dawn...

But we understand you might be working on your next big piece and you’ll be in a grove. Art Swap ( New Gallery going up on Feb 12th ) We’ll be doing the Art Swap on Feb 12th and installing a new gallery. Previous artists will be able to pick up your work. and hopefully bring something new. Let us know if you can’t make it that day so we can make special arrangements for delivery or pick up of your works. You can view our requirements here. Thanks to Don Meyer for the idea! This is our new artist cards that will be next to your art works. We hope this will give a consistent look and make it easy for people to see who to contact about the art. But please bring your cards. We have a special stands around the store for people to take your information. That Thursday night we’ll start around 5:30 so if you have new works you’d like to show or know other artists that would like to show please pass this information along. In March we’ll be announcing new requirements for the show. We’re still working out the details. We are also collecting works for our second venue at ClaSha Gift Boutique. They have requested bold, large art, and if it has a fashion theme that’s a bonus! They support artists and the selling of their works. Again all works subjects should be safe viewing in public venue. Our goal is to get at least 6 pieces to launch the second gallery! We are on our way to starting an art walk. Please forward this email to any artist you know that might like to show their works in either gallery....

Our first PopUp Gallery

Posted by on Dec 21, 2014 in Be A Part Of Art, Event, gallery, PopUp Gallery | 0 comments

What a great night we had at our PopUp Gallery!  I want to thank the Lombard Town Centre and Sarah Richardt for generously giving us the space for the gallery and all the artists that joined in the show.   We had 6 artist showing at the Jingle Bell Jubilee PopUp Gallery. Carolyn Dunn, Don Meyer, Bruce Schuurmann, Carol Gaus, Sharon Tinker and Sean McMenemy. We had a busy night during the events. We had interest from artists and patrons alike. All very happy to see Art making it way into the Lombard. The best thing about an event like this is we find out how many people live in our communities that are artists of some kind. Let’s face it creative people like hanging out with other creative people. We learned a lot about our first show so we hope our second one is even bigger with more activities and more artists! We especially want to thank Carolyn Dunn for bringing in her oils and working on her painting. The crowd really enjoy watching her process. She even made it into My Suburban Life! We even had a few sales of art which was fantastic.  If anything I hope that would encourage more artists to submit their work and “Be A Part Of Art” Carolyn Dunn, worked on one of her latest paintings while the crowds poured in. Bruce Schuurmann, displayed his photography of the area. He has created a very nice product line of greeting cards, photos and bookmarks. His work was a big hit as well. It was also a great first introduction to the general public.  We had art supporters and artist alike wanting to know more about what we are doing and how they can be a part of it.   So what’s next?  A LOT! More Events, Activities and Direction. Art Critiques Start again in January.  So get your art and get a thick skin. 3rd Thursdays are back! Start in January.  We’ll be talking and planing your year ahead.  We have a lot to plan so get in on the ground floor and lets’s build an art community in the Western Suburbs. Meet the Artist Night This will be your chance to meet the 14 different artists and everyone who’s been enjoying the work for the past couple months.  This time we’ll be doing a Saturday or Sunday this time so let us know what works for you. SO LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! 3rd Corner House Gallery install in February So get you new works ready or dust off your old favorites no one has seen for a while and share with Lombard. February, New gallery hanging at The Corner House. A Second Art Gallery on the Way! We are adding a second gallery location at ClaSha  ( This location is requesting Art with a Fashion and Kid theme. If you have work that fits into that category or you know a fellow artist that is creating work with these theme please forward this email. They do want to be able to sell your works so it’s not just for display! ) Please friend ClaSha on Facebook and your show support and go SHOPPING! They have great hand crafted items.
